Board of Directors

Meet the Board of Directors of GEHCA and if you see any of them in the neighborhood, be sure to say hello!

President

Lisa Owen

Lisa has been a resident and active member of Glen Echo Heights since 2006.  She looks forward to building greater neighborhood participation in GEHCA's various initiatives.  Her background includes several years on Capitol Hill; lobbying for a national education non-profit; small business owner; and is a member of several local boards that directly impact our local residents.  She resides on River Hill Road with her husband, Dan, their 4 children and dog, Gifford.

First Vice President

Purcie Bennett-Nickerson

Purcie is an environmental lawyer with additional expertise in environmental policy and ecology.  She has worked in environmental conservation and science for twelve years, and for the past five years her focus has been on oceans, marine ecosystems and species, and coastal habitat protections.  She holds a Bachelors degree from Goucher College, a Juris Doctorate from Washington and Lee University, and a Masters degree in Environmental and Resource Policy from the George Washington University.  In her spare time Purcie spends as much time outside as possible- she hikes, skis, kayaks, climbs, SUPs, bikes, and surfs.  She lives on River Hill Road with her husband, Patrick, two wild young boys, Van (6) and Ben (4), and her 90 pound dog, Maggie.

Second Vice President

Edd Barrows

A biologist and professor at Georgetown University, lives on Wehawken Road.  His experimental, conservation garden is the Wehawken Nature Preserve, established in 1986, and is certified as a National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat.  He has served on the GEHCA Tree and Garden Committee for years and is a former GEHCA officer.  His children (an international urban planner and an engineer) attended local schools and now live in Germany and New York.

Treasurer

Lydia Whitham

Lydia moved to the neighborhood five years ago, is the mother of two young ladies and the wife of Damian Whitham, the outgoing GEHCA president.  She graduated with her Masters degree in accounting from the University of Florida and worked as a CPA for KPMG.  After working in accounting, both public and private, for twenty years, she received her Masters of Education and now provides Academic Therapy for dyslexic students.  She looks forward to serving on GEHCA and supporting the neighborhood.

Social Committee Chair

Susan Sonnesyn Brooks

Susan has been a GEH resident since 2001.  She and her husband, Arnie Brooks, raised their family on Wyoming Court, and then decided to build their "dream home" - a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired "prairie home" on Winnebago Road, where they now reside.  Susan has been a real estate agent with Weichert for 15 years.  When not out selling homes, Susan loves walking in the woods with her crazy foxhound, reading novels, swimming and socializing at Mohican Pool, working out at Sport & Health, dining out, dancing, attending concerts and entertaining.  Susan is originally from Colorado and attended The Colorado College and then the University of Missouri School of Journalism.  She is excited to continue working on social and community-service events for GEH.

*Many thanks to the previous Board of Directors for all their fine work in building fellowship among neighbors and tirelessly advocating on our behalf.
